About Us

Since 1994, Habitat for Humanity of Thunder Bay has been building homes and hope for families in need by providing affordable housing in the community of Thunder Bay. To date, 39 families and numerous children have been served through our homeownership program, and 30 new homes have been constructed in the city.

Habitat for Humanity Thunder Bay’s success can only be attributed to the partnership and the support of the community. Together with your contribution, we can ensure everyone has a safe, decent, and affordable place to live. Our build projects can only happen with the support of our business partners and sponsors.

One in every eight families in Canada must choose between paying rent or buying food. We firmly believe that our homeownership plan is one of the best ways to break the cycle of poverty, ensuring that no one has to choose between shelter and food. At Habitat, we provide “a hand up, not a hand out.” All families are required to put in 500 hours of sweat equity, working side-by-side with volunteers to construct their own homes, assist on other builds, or help out in our ReStore or office.

Our mission goes beyond building homes; we build communities and hope. We believe that affordable housing plays a critical role in strong and stable communities. By partnering with families in need, volunteers, and donors, we are transforming lives and ensuring that every family has a place they can call home. Our dedicated volunteers and staff work tirelessly to make these dreams a reality, demonstrating the power of community and the difference we can make when we come together.

In addition to home building, our ReStore offers a valuable resource to the community by selling donated building materials and home items at reduced prices, with proceeds supporting our mission. This not only provides affordable options for home improvement but also helps divert usable materials from landfills, promoting environmental sustainability.

Join us in our mission to build a better future for families in Thunder Bay. With your support, we can continue to create lasting impacts, one home at a time. Together, we can make a difference and ensure that everyone has a safe, decent, and affordable place to live.
