Thunder Bay, ON – _December 12, 2025 Habitat for Humanity Thunder Bay is celebrating a meaningful milestone in its ongoing work to provide safe, stable, and affordable housing for working, lower-income families across the region. Today, Habitat hosted a special dedication ceremony for Nicole, a single mom and her two children, who are moving into their newly built Habitat home.

Habitat for Humanity Thunder Bay is committed to creating a community where everyone has a decent place to live. “Every home we build reflects the hard work, dedication, and resilience of the families we partner with,” said Todd Davis, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Thunder Bay. “Nicole has shown incredible determination throughout this process, completing 500 volunteer hours while caring for her children and building toward a stronger, more stable future.”

This newly constructed three-bedroom home represents far more than shelter. For Nicole and her children, it is a fresh start filled with hope, security, and the opportunity to thrive. After experiencing years of housing instability, this home provides the stability her family needs to grow and move forward with confidence.

“When I first found out I had been selected for a Habitat home, I could hardly believe it,” said Nicole. “Being part of the build, seeing every stage come together, and knowing my kids will finally have a safe, stable, and mould-free home means everything to us. We can finally breathe easier — literally and emotionally. I am so grateful to Habitat, the volunteers, and everyone who helped make this possible for my family.”

Through the Affordable Housing Fund under the National Housing Strategy, the Government of Canada has committed $168,000 towards Habitat Thunder Bay projects, including this home.

“Our government is dedicated to partnering with organizations like Habitat for Humanity to build the sort of safe, suitable, affordable housing necessary for healthy communities,” said the Honourable Gregor Robertson, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure and Minister responsible for Pacific Economic Development Canada. “Homes like these are where families grow, dreams come true, and futures begin.”

Since 2019, the Government of Canada has partnered with Habitat for Humanity Canada to build more than 800 homes across the country through a $65.1 million national investment through its Affordable Housing Fund, empowering more families to achieve safe, affordable housing. ###
